UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State women's tennis team opens its 2007 fall season this weekend at the 21st Annual Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. This will be the team's first action under first-year head coach Dawna Prevette.

"I know the team is excited to play this weekend," Prevette said. "They have been working very hard in practice this week."

The 2007-08 squad will rely on senior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) who finished with a record of 18-17 last year, as well as junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who finished with a 23-14 record last year.

Also attending the Fall Classic are juniors Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) and Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia), sophomores Sarah Lotta (Toronto, Ontario) and Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) and freshman Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.).

The Nittany Lions will be one of eight teams in Greenville. Five of the teams were ranked in the Top 50 last year in the ITA Rankings including Clemson, North Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Classic consists of seven singles flights and four doubles flights.

Up next for the Nittany Lions is the Tennis Center College New York Invite in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. the weekend of Oct. 6.
