Women's Tennis Continues to Compete at Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Penn State women's tennis team faced another tough day of competition at the Furman Fall Classic but came out with two wins. The tournament concludes tomorrow at the Mickel Tennis Center with action beginning at 9 a.m.

"I was pleased with our effort on the court today," head coach Dawna Prevette said. "We played smarter tennis and stayed positive."

Sophomore Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) pulled off a win over Wisconsin's Elizabeth Dolan (6-0, 6-4). Lotto will face Clemson's Kathi Gerber tomorrow for fifth place in the Flight 7 singles.

In other singles matches, junior Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia) fell to UNC's Jelena Durisic (7-6 (7-5), 6-1), while senior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Clemson's Ina Hadziselimovik. Shular will face Jessica Seyferth of Wisconsin tomorrow in a battle for seventh place. Sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) lost to Furman's Jessica Preeg (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) and freshman Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) lost to Keilly Ulery of Wisconsin by a 6-2, 6-3 margin. Junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) fell to Tennessee's Jennifer Meredith (6-2, 6-3) and junior Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) lost to Samantha Orlin also of Tennessee (4-6, 6-4, 6-4). Holzberg will face Furman's Natasa Manojlovic tomorrow for third place in the Flight 6 singles.

In doubles play, Dohanics and Holzberg fought for an 8-3 win over Wisconsin's Kim Roberts and Elizabeth Dolan to take seventh place in the Flight 3 doubles. Shular and Lotto lost to Tennessee's Zsophia Zubor and Caitlin Whoriskey (8-3). Morzan and McCarthy dropped an 8-4 decision to Furman's Lauren Osborne and Jessica Preeg in Flight 2 doubles.
