STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State Fencing will continue the 2007-08 season by hosting the Garret Open in University Park, Pa. Action will take place on Saturday, November 17, with women's action and will conclude on Sunday with the men's competition. Head coach Emmanuil Kaidanov's women's fencers will compete 8:30 a.m. Saturday and the men's team will compete on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Penn State's Mary Beaver White Building.
Both the men's and women's teams have found success so far this year. Freshman Samuel Larsen (State College, Pa.) placed first in the men's epee division at the Temple Open two weeks ago. Junior James Moody (Denver, Colo.) placed second behind Larsen at the event. On the women's side, Jessica Kim-Danh placed first in the women's division of saber at Temple.
Last week, sophomore Nick Chinman (Boulder, Colo.) took a first place finish in foil competition for the National Olympic Trials in Dallas, Texas.
Following the Garret, Penn State will have next weekend off. On December 1, the team will head to Princeton for competition with Vassar, North Carolina, Harvard, and NYU.
