Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Samuel Larsen (State College, Pa.) placed first in the men's epee division at the Temple Open on Sunday. Larsen topped the list of 99 competitors in the division.
Three other Penn State Fencers joined Larsen in the top 10 of the epee division. Junior James Moody (Denver, Colo.) placed second behind Larsen. Sophomore Brian Heflich (East Setauket, N.Y.) finished seventh followed by sophomore Maxwell Dettlinger (Louisville, Ky.) finishing eighth in the epee division.
Penn State also faired well in the foil division, having two fencers place in the top 20. Junior Janos Gasparin (Grapevine, Tex.) took a tenth place finish and freshman Mitchell Junsman (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished 16th.
In the Saber division, NYU's Hugo Rodriguez took first place. Notable finishers from Penn State were senior Alexander Vongreies (Bloomington, Minn.) taking 15th and sophomore William Anderson (Waban, Mass.) finishing 21st.
The Penn State men's and women's teams will head to Dallas, Texas next week for the NAC Junior/Cadet/Youth event.
