University Park, Pa. - Relief pitcher Drew O'Neil added yet another preseason honor to his resume on Wednesday as he was named to the preseason All Ping second team by Ping!Baseball, a website devoted to the promotion of college baseball. O'Neil adds this preseason honor to his Louisville Slugger preseason third team All-American honor from Collegiate Baseball as well his inclusion on the Wallace Award watch list and the preseason All-Big Ten team by Rivals.com.
O'Neil, an eighth-round selection of the Cincinnati Reds in last year's MLB amateur draft, will be one of the top closers in the country this year. Last year, he went 4-2 record in 23 appearances while shattering the school record for saves with 11, breaking the old record of seven easily. He will enter 2008 just four saves shy of tying the school's career record for saves.
O'Neil and the Nittany Lions will open the 2008 season in just 44 days from today, on Friday, February 22 at High Point. Season tickets for Penn State's 23-game home schedule are on sale and can be purchased by calling the State College Spikes ticket office at (814) 272-1711 or 1-877-SPIKES.
