No. 22 Women's Gymnastics Finishes Second On Senior Night

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Behind a career-high all-around score of 39.525 from sophomore Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) the 22nd-ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team tallied a season-high 195.725 to finish second out of four teams Friday night in the final regular-season home meet at Rec Hall. No. 14 Nebraska claimed the team title with a 196.000 while Maryland posted a third-place 192.675 and Rutgers recorded a 189.475 for fourth place.

The meet will air on the Big Ten Network on Thursday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET and again on Friday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Highlights will also be available at www.bigtennetwork.com.

Sophomore Allie Southard (Nanuet, N.Y.) was named the Ann Carr Award winner as the most inspirational gymnast following the meet. Southard performed her first routine of the year, a 9.675 exhibition on beam, after suffering a broken back during a fall while training bars over the summer.

Following the meet, seniors Jaime Murray, Lindsay Borkan and Aslynn Satterfield were honored for their contributions to Penn State and the women's gymnastics team.

As a team, Penn State posted scores of 49.050 on vault, 48.600 on bars, a season-high 49.050 on beam and a 49.025 on floor.

Personett claimed her sixth all-around title of the year and her 11th consecutive top-five finish. Nebraska's Desire' Sniatynski finished second in the all-around with a 39.450 while Husker Tricia Woo placed third with a 39.250. Penn State's Alexandra Brockway (Macungie, Pa.) tallied a sixth-place 38.925.

The Nittany Lions opened the meet on vault, with Personett finishing second with a 9.875. Satterfield and sophomore Rosie Smith (Waterford, Pa.) tallied a 9.825 and 9.800, respectively, for fifth and sixth place, while Brockway and sophomore Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) each scored a 9.775 to tie for ninth. Freshman Kristina Beck (Jacksonville, Fla.) notched a 9.725 to round out the Lion rotation. Nebraska's Emily Parsons took home the individual vault title with a 9.925.

On the uneven bars, Personett again was Penn State's top finisher with a fourth-place 9.850 while Brockway claimed fifth with a 9.825. Freshman Danielle Hover (Hamburg, N.Y.) recorded a seventh-place 9.775 while Beck produced a ninth-place 9.750. Sophomore Lindsey Montross (Roseville, Calif.), competing for the first time since Jan. 25 due to injury, notched a 9.400 while Smith posted a 9.200 after a fall. Nebraska's Desire' Sniatynski claimed the bars title with a 9.925.

In the third rotation on beam, Personett led the Nittany Lions with a career-high 9.900 to tie for first with Nebraska's Tricia Woo. Rohrbaugh claimed third with a 9.825, just shy of her career-best, while Brockway finished sixth with a 9.800. Freshman Melissa Klein (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied a 9.775 to tie her career best while Hover and Borkan each notched a 9.750 to tie for 12th, a season-high for Borkan. Freshman Heather McElwee (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) scored a 9.750 in exhibition for the Lions while Southard tallied a 9.675 in her first performance of the season.

The Nittany Lions closed out the meet on floor, with Personett claiming top honors as she tied Parsons for first with a 9.900, Personett's ninth score of 9.900 or better on floor this season. Satterfield notched a fourth-place 9.800 while Klein, Smith and Rohrbaugh all tallied a 9.775 to tie for seventh. Brockway rounded out the Penn State competitors with a 9.525. Beck also competed in exhibition, scoring a 9.675.

Penn State travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 29 at 2:15 p.m. ET. The Nittany Lions then host one of six NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The top two teams earn a berth in the NCAA National Championships, to be hosted by the University of Georgia on April 24-26.
