STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse team rode a furious second quarter and the hot scoring of junior Rob Forster (Jenkintown, Pa.) to a convincing 7-2 win at Fairfield in an ECAC Lacrosse League contest in Connecticut on Friday night. Forster scored three goals to lead a solid Nittany Lion attack that unleashed a 5-1 torrent in the second quarter.

Penn State exploded after a scoreless first period to outscore Fairfield 5-1 in the second quarter. Charley Henneghan (Beverly Hills, Mich.) knocked in a man-up goal just :12 into the period to start an onslaught of five straight Penn State goals. Forster scored off a Matt Warner (Geneva, N.Y.) assist at the 9:47 mark and Henneghan knocked in an unassisted goal just ten seconds later.

Freshman Colby Rhodes (La Jolla, Calif.) added an unassisted goal at the 6:35 mark and Forster, off an Andrew Mackrides (Newtown Square, Pa.) assist, closed out Penn State's run with a goal at the 3:12 mark. Fairfield got on the board just before the period ended when Dan Holub made the score 5-1 with a goal at the 0:47 mark. The one other constant for Penn State was the stellar play in goal from junior Drew Adams (Springfield, Pa.). Adams kept the Stags nearly scoreless for the first 30 minutes.

The two teams came out and played evenly throughout the third period. Penn State junior Max VanArsdale (Rochester, N.Y.) scored unassisted at the 7:54 mark to put Penn State up 6-1. Fairfield got its second goal when Matt Plominski snuck a ball by Adams with 3:15 left in the period.

Forster got his third goal, taking a VanArsdale assist with 13:42 in the fourth quarter to up the Nittany Lion lead to 7-2. The goal would be the last of the game as Penn State rolled to the win.

Henneghan added two goals for Penn State while VanArsdale had a goal and an assist. The Nittany Lions were outshot 26-22, but Adams stellar play in goal kept the Stags at a distance. Adams had eight saves in the contest and notched his third game of the year giving up three or fewer goals.

Penn State is now 4-3, 1-1 ECAC. Fairfield is now 3-3, 1-1 in the league. The Nittany Lions will continue conference play next Saturday, March 29, when they welcome Massachusetts to Happy Valley for a 12 p.m. contest.
