UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Six Penn State Football student-athletes participated in an Austim Awareness event at the State College Barnes & Noble today.
The players read three childrens' books about autism to about a dozen kids during storytime. The Nittany Lions that participated were: senior tackle Gerald Cadogan, senior placekicker Kevin Kelly, junior linebacker Sean Lee, senior cornerback Lydell Sargeant, redshirt freshman tight end Andrew Szczerba and sophomore guard Stefen Wisniewski.
April is Autism Awareness month. One in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, according to www.autismspeaks.org, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls, according to autismspeaks.org.
