Nittany Lion Wrestler Jake Strayer Named NWCA Academic All-American

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; May 9, 2008 - Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Jake Strayer (South Fork, Pa.) has been named a National Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-American for the 2008 season. Strayer becomes a three-time Academic All-American with this award.

A junior co-captain who started part of the 2007-08 season at 141 pounds for Penn State, Strayer went 11-5 this year, including a 7-4 mark in dual meets. Strayer has a 65-19 career record and wrestled his first two seasons at 133 pounds. He became an All-American at 133 in 2007 after a seventh place finish at Nationals.

Strayer will return for his senior campaign next year, looking to help Penn State continue is ascent on the national wrestling scene. The Nittany Lions are coming off a stellar 2007-08 campaign that saw the team finish third at nationals and post a 14-5 dual meet record.
