UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State All-Sports Museum will be running its first ever Lion Cub Zone for kids of all ages prior to the Homecoming clash with Michigan. Located outside the Museum at the southwest corner of Beaver Stadium, the Zone will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will feature a variety of activities.
Families are invited to stop by for:
-A Century of Football Change: Participants will be able to be able to trace the evolution of football across the last century as they try on a replica of a 1920s leather helmet and attempt a pass with a rugby-style ball similar to those used in the early 20th century. They next will suit up like today's Nittany Lion players with a modern helmet and shoulder pads to throw a 21st century ball to see just how much things have changed since the early days of the game.
-Nittany Lions From the Past: Come meet former Nittany Lion mascots from the past six decades and hear their stories about what it was like to be the "symbol of our best." Learn firsthand how the Nittany Lion has changed through the years from its start as the brainchild of Joe Mason (Class of 1907) through today's beloved Penn State mascot. Kids will receive a booklet tracing the Lion's history to decorate as well as will see a real Nittany Lion suit.
Balloons will be available for all participants. The Penn State All-Sports Museum's galleries will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday October 18, prior to the game. Opened in 2002, the All-Sports Museum honors the student-athletes and coaches through history who have helped make Penn State's intercollegiate athletic program one of the best in the nation.Inside the Museum, the inspirational story of men's and women's sports at Penn State is shown in dramatic visuals that cover the walls from floor to ceiling. Visitors to the Museum can hear the ping of the ball, the roar of dedicated fans, the fight songs, the Blue Band performing at halftime, and many of Penn State's cheers. Throughout the Museum you will find interactive exhibits that invite visitors to experience what it feels like to step into the shoes of a Penn State athlete.
