UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., Jan. 2, 2008 - The Nittany Lion basketball team (12-2) will look to continue its five-game win streak and remain unbeaten (2-0) in true road games on the season Saturday when they take on Wisconsin (10-3) at 2:00 p.m. (ET) in Madison, Wisc. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
Penn State will take a 12-2 record into the game, its best start since 1995-96, after posting its third straight Big Ten opening win over Northwestern (61-57) on Wednesday. Big Ten leading scorer Talor Battle led the Lions in that game with 26 points and 12 rebounds as he equaled a career high hitting seven threes.
Battle and Pringle, who had 14 vs. Northwestern, form one of the Big Ten's top guard tandem as they have combined make 70 threes while shooting nearly 47 percent from three and have led the Lions in scoring in all but two games. Pringle (14.0 ppg) and Battle are joined by senior forward Jamelle Cornley (14.1 ppg) in all ranking in the top 10 of the conference in scoring making Penn State the only Big Ten team with three such players.
The defending Big Ten champion Badgers opened Big Ten play by knocking off No. 24 Michigan, 73-61, in Ann Arbor and bring a 10-3 record into the weekend. They have lost only to ranked opponents Connecticut (76-57), at Marquette (61-58) and vs. Texas (74-69) on the year. The Badgers are led by Trevon Hughes, a 49 percent three-point shooter, and Marcus Landry who both average 12 points per game. Jason Bohannon adds 10.8 a game and joins Hughes with 25 threes. Landry and Hughes both had 16 points as UW shot 58 percent in the win at Michigan.
