Evanston, Ill.-After today's duals at Northwestern women are 13-1 while men are 12-3. Women received their first loss this year to Notre Dame, while men lost 13-14 to Notre Dame and 11-16 to Ohio State University. Junior Nick Chinman (Boulder, Colo.) stood out for the day going completely undefeated. Chinman was 12-3 for the year and after this weekend is currently 18-3.
The women's wins on the day were against: Wayne State (27-0), University of North Carolina (22-5), Northwestern (20-7), and Ohio State (17-10). The win against Northwestern was exciting after Penn State's loss to them last year. Junior Caitlin Thompson (Portland, Ore.) had an impressive day going 10-2, and before this weekend she was 16-3 on the year.
After a tough loss to UPenn last week at Princeton, Penn State men suffered two more losses to Notre Dame and Ohio State University. The three wins were against: University of North Carolina (18-9), Cleveland State (25-2), and Wayne State (19-8). Besides Junior Nick Chinman (Boulder, Colo.), Freshman Miles Chamley-Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) stood out with a 13-2 record. He went into the weekend undefeated and is now 25-2 for the year.
Several fencers will be headed to the Junior Olympics in Albuquerque, N.M. from Friday February 13th- 16th. The next dual will be at home in University Park, Pa. February 21 against Temple, St. John's and Duke.
