UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Lady Lion basketball fans have a new chance to follow the team from a unique perspective, as a second season of "Courtside with Coquese" debuts this Friday.
With cameras in the huddle, locker room and along for the ride on road trips, "Courtside with Coquese" is a show that offers fans impressive access to the storied basketball program. This episode recaps the first 14 games of the 2008-2009 season, including Penn State's tip-off against number-one ranked University of Connecticut at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
"Courtside with Coquese" airs Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on WPSU-TV. This episode will also air Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on the Big Ten Network. And starting Monday, fans can view it online at GoPSUsports.com, LadyLions.com and Comcast Video On Demand.
During this week's episode of "Courtside with Coquese," fans can catch a profile of Lady Lions guard Tyra Grant. The junior from Youngstown, Ohio sunk her 1000th career point during a match-up against Florida State University in December. WPSU was there to capture the impressive milestone. Grant is the 14th junior in program history to reach 1000 points.
The program won a Mid-Atlantic Emmy in 2008 for best Sports Program Series.
"Courtside with Coquese," is produced by WPSU-TV, central Pennsylvania's PBS-member station, which offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation's top women's basketball programs. "Courtside with Coquese" takes viewers on an all-access tour of the Lady Lion program including road trips, locker room access, features, game highlights and player interviews.
Coach Coquese Washington is in her second season as head coach of the Penn State Lady Lion Basketball Team. She came to Penn State from Notre Dame University, where she served as an assistant for eight seasons, most recently as associate head coach. She is considered one of the top recruiters in the country and was instrumental in helping Notre Dame secure eight consecutive Top 25 recruiting classes, according to Blue Star Index. That is a feat only accomplished by two other programs in the country.
