UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: May 8, 2009 - After a full season of outdoor competition, the Nittany Lion track and field team will get on last chance to tune up their skills prior to the Big Ten Championships, as they are scheduled to host the Penn State Open, this Saturday at Nittany Lion Track. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
The Lions have been firing on all cylinders this outdoor season, as 33 individuals and one relay have already qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships, with several more poised and ready for qualifying performances. The Lions also look to make a big dent amongst conference competition next weekend with three Nittany Lion men sitting atop the Big Ten standings in their respective event including Ryan Foster (Tasmania, Australia) in the 800-meters, Clarence Smith (Coatesville, Pa.) in the triple jump, and Tanner Evak (State College, Pa.) in the javelin. On the women's side, a pair of Nittany Lions own the top marks in four events with Shavon GReaves (Lakewood, N.J) leading the Big Ten in the 100- and 200-meters, and Fawn Dorr (Akron, N.Y.) topping the standings in the 400-meters and 400-meter hurdles.
