July 7, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Three Penn State women's soccer student-athletes were successful in their respective bids to reach the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships to be held July 21-26 in Worcester, Mass.

Today saw two Lions qualify out of Region I (East) as sophomore Jess Rosenbluth (Gladwyne, Pa.) and incoming freshman Maddy Evans (Glenside, Pa.) advanced from the U-19 and U-18 divisions in Barboursville, W. Va. for Nationals.

Rosenbluth's FC Delco defeated fellow Penn State incoming freshman Christine Nairn's Freestate Shooters (Md.), 1-0. In the U-18 classification, Evans guided her club, FC Bucks vipers to a matching 1-0 win over Montclair United (N.J.).

The last of the three Nittany Lions to qualify for Nationals was Krissy Tribbett (Centennial, Colo.). Her shutout of the Avalance Premier squad out of Utah, 3-0, on June 21 paved the way Colorado Rush Nike to advance to Worcester in the U-19 division out of Lancaster, Calif. Tribbett's team is the defending national champions in the age group.

The 2009 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships will be held July 21-26 at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park in Worcester, Mass.
