UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State men's tennis coach Todd Doebler announced that former Nittany Lion standout Brendan Lynch will join the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Lynch graduated with a degree in finance from the Smeal College of Business in May after a stellar four-year career.
"I am very excited that Brendan will be our next assistant coach," Doebler said. "He proved over his years here at Penn State that he has an amazing work ethic and was a great competitor as a student-athlete. Brendan will hit the ground running and be a great asset to the tennis program."
"It is an honor for me to begin my coaching career here at my alma mater," Lynch said. "I could not have asked for a better experience during my four years as a Penn State student-athlete. Consequently, I am very grateful for the opportunity to remain a part of the Penn State tennis family and help guide the program towards excellent results in the coming years."
Lynch collected 17 singles wins during the 2008-09 season, including nine victories in the first singles slot. He ended the season on a five-match winning streak. The North Potomac, Md., native also picked up 16 doubles victories last season, mainly pairing with Guillaume St-Maurice in the second and third pairs position.
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Lynch finished his career ninth in school history with 79 singles victories. In 2007-08, Lynch tallied a school-record 26 doubles wins with partner Michael James en route to a No. 33 rank in the ITA Double Rankings. He also finished the season ranked 12th in the ITA Northeast Region singles poll.
