UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After an impressive second half against Lock Haven, the No. 11 Penn State field hockey team looks for its second straight victory Sunday when it hosts perennial power and No. 5 nationally ranked Connecticut at 12 p.m. The Huskies are the highest ranked team scheduled to play at Penn State this season. Remember, admission to the Penn State Field Hockey Complex is FREE to all!
Other ranked teams headed to Happy Valley are Michigan State (8) and Ohio State (18). In total, the Lions face 10 foes ranked in the preseason NFHCA poll.
The Lions scored three goals in the second half Friday for a convincing come-from-behind 3-1 win over Lock Haven. In the process, they extended their win streak against in-state opponents to 30. Hannah Allison's five points were the most points by a Lion since last Oct. 19 when Allison Scola had that many at Northwestern. It was also the most goals by a freshman since Scola's two vs. Bucknell on Oct. 18, 2005.
Sunday marks a battle of two of the winningest coaches in NCAA Division I history. UConn's Nancy Stevens is currently second with a 484-156-24 record while Penn State head coach Charlene is fourth with a 390-147-15 record.
Penn State looks to avenge last season's 1-0 loss in Storrs, Conn. It leads the all-time series 16-12-4.
