No. 13/10 Women's Soccer Hosts Rutgers Sunday Afternoon at Jeffrey Field

Sept. 5, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--The Penn State women's soccer team will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Jeffrey Field on Sunday. The game, honoring U.S. Youth Soccer, will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two squads.

Penn State (2-2-0) returns to Happy Valley after suffering a tough 2-1 loss at No. 5/5 Florida State on Friday night. Danielle Toney scored the Nittany Lions' lone goal, her third of the season, off Katie Schoepfer/Christine Nairn helpers. Alyssa Naeher made four saves in the game.

Last year, Penn State had to travel to Piscataway twice to play Rutgers (3-0-1), splitting the season series. A 1-0 double-overtime win in September would be a prelude to a 2-1 double-overtime defeat in the NCAA First Round in November.

Rutgers travels to Happy Valley unbeaten in 2009. The Scarlet Knights defeated Towson on a a late penalty kick on Friday night after a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Stony Brook the weekend before. RU opened the season 2-0 with wins over UMBC (4-0) and Fordham (3-0). The Scarlet Knights have conceded just one goal this season, while notching nine themselves.

Penn State holds a 7-2-1 all-time record against Rutgers and looks to improve to 5-0 at Jeffrey Field.
