Yeisley Honored on Soccer America Team of the Week

Sept. 8, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior forward Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) has been named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week for his standout performance in Penn State's opening week of play. The honor is the second in two days for Yeisley, as he was selected as Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Yeisley was one of five forwards chosen for recognition by the national collegiate soccer outlet and was the only player from the Big Ten to receive mention.

After being sidelined for the entire 2008 season while recovering from the second and more severe of his major knee injuries, Yeisley returned to the pitch in spectacular fashion during 2009's opening week. The team captain scored three goals and notched one assist in helping the Nittany Lions to a 2-1 record, their best start since 2001.

Seeing his first action is nearly two full years, Yeisley quickly regained the form that made him a two-time All-Big Ten forward, scoring the first two goals in Penn State's season opening 5-0 blanking of Saint Francis on Sept. 1. At last weekend's Wolstein Classic in Columbus, Ohio, he scored the Nittany Lions' goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton. He wrapped up tournament play by assisting on Corey Herzog's last minute game winning goal in PSU's thrilling 1-0 victory over Gonzaga.

Yeisley currently tops the Big Ten in total shots (13), points (7), and goals (3). He is also Penn State's leading active scorer with 19 goals and 12 assists (50 points) in 44 career games.

Yeisley and the Nittany Lions continue their 2009 home schedule this weekend by welcoming Ohio State, Hartford, and Hofstra to Jeffrey Field for the annual Penn State Classic. On the first day of competition, Fri., Sept. 11, Ohio State will take on Hartford (5 p.m.) and Penn State will face Hofstra (7:30 p.m.). Day two action, scheduled for Sun., Sept. 13, will pit Ohio State versus Hofstra (noon) and Penn State against Hartford (2:30 p.m.). Admission to the Penn State Classic and to all home men's soccer games is free.
