Here is a blurb from the Centre County United Way website:
On October 2nd, volunteers from companies across Centre County, as well as students from Penn State and local school districts, spent the day helping local agencies and historical sites, parks and municipal properties and families of deployed military personnel. Projects include raking leaves; painting indoors and outdoors; making general repairs; putting on new roofs; cleaning garden areas; and small construction jobs.
Volunteers assembled at 7:30 a.m. to share fellowship and hot food, coffee and hot chocolate at the pancake breakfast, compliments of Penn State's JAVA Company. Day of Caring chairman, Colonel Gerald Russell, USMC (retired) was on hand to kick-off the event. Honorary chairwoman, Sue Paterno, provided her support and enthusiasm for the day.
By 9:00 a.m., volunteers arrived at their assigned project sites throughout Centre County. They spent most of the day cleaning up sites, improving maintenance, and doing whatever they could to improve the overall well being of the community.
