Lady Lions to Host Pink Zone Kick Off Event Before Saturday's Football Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State Lady Lion basketball team will kick off of their WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State fundraising campaign with a "Hoop Shoot" prior to the Penn State-Eastern Illinois football game. The hoop shoot, which will be located outside of the Penn State Bookstore location at Beaver Stadium (near the All Sports Museum), will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The Lady Lions will be on hand from 10-11 a.m.

The "Hoop Shoot" gives fans the opportunity to shoot one free throw for $1 or shoot six free throws for $5. With a made shot, fans will win a prize will be registered to win the grand prize of four tickets to the Pink Zone game against Illinois on Sun., Jan. 24 and a $100 gift certificate to the Penn State Bookstore. All funds raised on Saturday will go directly to the general Pink Zone Fund.

The Official 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State t-shirt will be available for purchase beginning this weekend at the Eastern Illinois football game. The shirts are $10 with $3 of every shirt going to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts. This weekend, the shirts will be available outside of the Penn State Bookstore location at Beaver Stadium. Fans can purchase the shirts at all Penn State Bookstore locations and on www.goPSUsports.com/store.

The Lady Lions will also participate in Tailgreat at the Bryce Jordan Center. The team will be on the floor from 9:15-9:50 a.m., interacting with fans. The teams will be introduced at Tailgreat at 9:50 a.m., followed by a question and answer session.

The 2010 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m., as the Lady Lions take on Illinois in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game can be seen on www.bigtennetwork.com. The first three Pink Zone events have raised more than $80,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Headlining the list of returning Lady Lions is All-Big Ten first team selection Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio), who finished second in the conference and 18th in the country in scoring at a 19.6 per game clip. The preseason Wooden Award candidate, will have a chance to become the fourth player in school history to reach 2,000 tallies as she enters her final season needing 553 points to reach the milestone. Junior guard/forward Julia Trogele (Devon, Pa.) is also back in the fold after leading the team and finishing 12th in the Big Ten with a 6.3 rebounding average. Penn State also adds the 14th-ranked recruiting class by ESPN/Hoopgurlz that includes WBCA and SLAM! Magazine All-American Nikki Greene (Diboll, Texas) and Parade Magazine All-American Alex Bentley (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Lady Lion Basketball single game tickets are available by calling the ticket office at 814-865-5555, by visiting GoPSUsports.com or through Ticketmaster. Single game tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students and youth. Penn State also offers special group ticket rates (15 fans or more) of $8 for adults. The Lady Lions open their season with an exhibition game against Indiana (Pa.) on Sun., Nov. 8. Penn State fans that attend the Indiana football game can use their football ticket to receive buy one ticket, get one free ticket for the Lady Lions' home opener against NJIT on Sun., Nov. 15.
