Two Nittany Lions Land Big Ten Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

Nov. 9, 2009

PARK RIDGE, Ill.--The No. 22 Penn State women's soccer team gathered two more weekly accolades from the Big Ten on Monday. Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) and Emma Thomson (Nottinghamshire, England) were presented as the Big Ten Co-Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Schoepfer won her third offensive weekly honor thanks in part to her game-winning goal at Michigan that secured Penn State's solo Big Ten Championship on Sunday. Schoepfer now has 11 goals this season and is tied atop the Big Ten for points (30) with fellow Nittany Lion Danielle Toney.

Thomson earned her first Big Ten weekly award when she was named the Defensive Player of the Week for helping the Nittany Lions to a shutout over Michigan. Moreover, Thomson was vital in the backline, keeping the Michigan strikers to just three shots, none of which reached frame and none of which were dangerous scoring chances.

The next match is scheduled for Friday for the NCAA First Round against an opponent to be determined. The Nittany Lion soccer squad will learn its NCAA Tournament destination Monday night when the 64-team field is released. The bracket will be revealed on ESPNews at 8:00 p.m. and will let the No. 22 Nittany Lions, who moved up to ninth in the latest Soccer America poll, who their first round opponent will be.

A full post-Selection Show recap will be posted on GoPSUsports.com immediately afterwards with opponent and site of the first round game, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13.
