Q & A With Freshman Sky Seo

Feb. 8, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman Hanule Seo

A freshman from St. Louis, Mo., Hanule Seo has contributed to the women's golf team this season. Starting in three matches, Seo recorded a career -best round at the Spider Invitational with a 73 in the second round and a tie for 12th place. Recently she sat down to answer a few questions.

Q: What was your first competitive golf experience?

A: My freshman year of high school when I got here to the U.S. It was cool. I qualified for districts and I was actually really thrilled.

Q: What is a memorable experience you have had so far at Penn State?

A: I really had fun playing just golf and just the Holuba Hall. Practicing is really fun. I call it the `hubby' though.

Q: What is the greatest lesson you have learned so far at Penn State?

A: Don't procrastinate and manage your time really well.

Q: Do you have any role models?

A: Jennifer Song. She taught me how to be not so depressed about how you play and not so angry about how you play. She goes to USC. I met her like three years ago. She's a friend now, back then I just knew her because we had the same host family. She influenced me a lot and I just want to be as good as her.

Q: What do you do for fun outside of golf?

A: In the dorms there's really nothing to do. We play Catch Phrase and Courtney, my roommate, has video games. I love movies, so we have movie night.

Q: What do you want to accomplish at Penn State while you are here?

A: I want to major in architectural engineering. I want to be a lighting designer. In golf, I want to be one of the top starters and I want our team to do really well. I think we have a good team.

Q: What are your plans for your future after Penn State?

A: I want to try to be on the LPGA tour and just travel. But, that dream isn't as cool as I thought it was when I was little. Now, it sounds so much harder. I still want to do that and do lighting.

Q: Is there anything you want to do in your life?

A: I want to go to Egypt and it's not official yet, but me and my friends from Korea want to travel Europe. It might happen next year.

Q: Do you have any hidden talents or something people wouldn't know about you?

A: I know three languages: German, Korean and English.

Q: What parts of your golf game are you really focused on improving this year?

A: Putting, for sure. Like, half of my score is putting, like 40 putts. I hope I get that down into the 20s. I accomplished that last year, but I could only do that once and I want to do it multiple times.
