The Sooner was able to ride Pataky out to carry the 2-0 lead into the second period. Patterson chose down to start the second period and was quickly turned to his back for a near fall. Pataky was in the process of getting the pin when the official ruled the hold potentially dangerous, stopping action before the Lion could get the fall. Leading 3-2 now, Pataky then put tougher a strong ride, maintaining control of Patterson and looking for a chance to turn the Sooner again. Pataky was able to build up a build up a 1:28 edge in riding time with a ride-out. He then chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 4-2 lead.
