Delray Beach, Fla. - The Penn State men's golf team wrapped up the second round of the Spring Break Championships in second place after shooting a 283, a seven-stroke improvement from round one. The Nittany Lion's two-round total of 573 (+5) places them 12 strokes back of first-place team Illinois.
Senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) fired a blistering 69 in his second round catapulting him to the No. 11 position with a 143 two-day total. Howe enters the final round with rounds of 74-69 (+1), five strokes back from top three honors. Freshman standout Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) joins Howe tied for 11 with a 70-73 (143) two-day total. Senior Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) improved by seven strokes carding a 76-69 (145) to climb the leaderboard to his current position tied for 21. Junior Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) sits tied for 46 with scores of 70-79 (149). Senior Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) rounds out the Nittany Lion line-up carding rounds of 78-72 (150).
Chris DeForest of Illinois enters the final 18 in first with rounds of 67-68 (135). Barrett Kelpin of Iowa tracks DeForest by three strokes with rounds of 72-65 (137).
