UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will head to Indiana this weekend to tee-off the 2010-2011 season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville. Indiana University will host the Lions along with 14 other teams at the Wolf Run Golf Club, which was ranked #54 on Golfweek Magazine's 2010 List of Top Modern Courses.
This will mark the Lion's second consecutive season start at Wolf Run. Last season the team finished eighth overall with a tournament total of 292-292-298 (882). Senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) led the lions shooting rounds of 72-70-76 (218) and finishing in the top 20. Also returning to the tournament is senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) who shot a consistent 75 throughout the three rounds tying for 38 (225).
Joining Howe and McDonagh on the course are senior Jason Cohan (Wayne, Pa.), junior John Burke (Bay Village, Ohio) and newcomer Michael Miller (Brewster, N.Y.) who will make his collegiate debut this weekend.
Penn State will be one of the five schools representing the Big 10 this weekend. Illinois, Indiana, University of Michigan and Northwestern are all in attendance in their first meeting since the Big Ten Championships. Other schools competing include: Kentucky, Ball State, IUPUI, Missouri, Tulsa, Louisville, Kansas State, North Florida, Central Florida and Iowa State.
This will be the Lion's third appearance at Wolf Run. In 2007 the team took home the title under the lead of former players Robert Rohanna and Kevin Foley and current senior T.J. Howe. Howe currently holds the tenth best three-round score in Wolf Run tournament history with a 213. Penn State holds the third best three-round score at 862 (+10) and they are tied for fifth with Illinois for the best single-round score in tournament history shooting 284 (E), both achieved in 2007.
The tournament will begin with a practice round on Friday, Sept. 10 with teams playing throughout the day. 36 holes of continuous play will begin on Saturday and the last 18 holes will be held on Sunday.
