Penn State Men's Golf Team Finishes 12th at Eighth Annual MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. - After two days of competition, the Penn State men's golf team finished 12th at the MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in California. The Nittany Lions posted a final round of 285 to bring them to a three-round total of 847 (280-282-285). The team finished 5-under par.

No. 17 California took the tournament title for a fifth time since the tournament was started in 2003. The tournament has been played for the past eight seasons with the exception of 2008. California secured the first place position consistently throughout the three rounds. They led the leader board with rounds of 262-266-276 (804).

Seniors Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) and T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) finished tied for 29 with final round scores of 69 and 71 respectively. The two carded a three round total of 210 at three-under par. McDonagh posted scores of 67-74-69. Howe finished with rounds of 71-68-71. The two Nittany Lions were 13 strokes behind the tournament's individual winner, San Diego State's Alex Kang. Kang finished play at 16-under par and a three-round total of 197 (62-67-68).

Freshman Michael Miller (Brewster, N.Y.) finished tied for 39 with even par and rounds of 71-67-75 (213). Sophomore Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) improved throughout the three rounds of play and concluded with a three round total of 217 (74-73-70). Marin finished tied for 57 at four-over par. Junior John Burke (Bay Village, Ohio) finished tied for 75 at 12-over par with rounds of 71-77-77 (225).

The team will have the next weekend off from competition. They will be back in action at the Baylor Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas on Monday, Nov. 1 and Tuesday, Nov. 2.
