The Penn State women's golf team, the host of the Nittany Lion Invitational, took home the tournament title after posting a 301 in the third round. The Nittany Lions carded a 901 (295-305-301) in the tournament for a 37-over par.
The score of 901 is tied for the fourth-best 54-hole team score in school history, with the last 901 coming at the 2003 Nittany Lion Invitational. The is Penn State's first tournament win since the Bucknell Invitational in 2008, and is the team's first Nittany Lion Invitational title since 2006.
Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) improved in her third round, as she notched a 71 and finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 219 (72-76-71). She finished in second place, with her score of 219 leaving her tied for third place on the school's best 54-hole scores list. Her 71 in the third round ties her career-best round.
Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) came in behind Ransone, recording a 229 (79-74-76) for a +13. Seo tied for 16th place overall. Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) matched Seo's 229 (74-77-78) with one of her own. Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) closely followed Seo and Ceresko, as she put together a score of 230 (73-78-79) and came in a tie 21st place. Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) rounded out the starters for the Nittany Lions with a 35th place finish and a score of 234 (76-82-76).
All of the Nittany Lions played in at least one round of the tournament as an individual. Sophomore Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) finished as the top individual for Penn State with a 232 (83-73-76). Her second round score of 73 is a new career-best.
Western Michigan came in second place with a score of 910. Fabia Rothenfluh of Rollins won the tournament as she posted a 218 (73-73-72) for a +2.
The Nittany Lions will have a little over a week to prepare for the Lady Northern in Chicago, Ill., hosted by Northwestern. This will be the team's last tournament of the fall season and will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11-12.
