Hokie Fall Invitational Final Brackets
BLACKSBURG, Va.; October 3, 2010 - Junior Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.) won their singles matches today to earn a fifth place in their respective flights at the Hokie Fall Invitational for the Penn State women's tennis team.
Prishlyak defeated Maria Voscekova of Marshall, 6-1, 6-4, in Flight C singles. In Flight F singles, Roth bested Mariana Arana of Richmond, 6-0, 6-4. In Flight B singles, freshman Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) defeated Kristina Koprcina of Marshall, 6-2, 6-0 to earn ninth place. Also in singles action Sunday, Fernanda Perrotta, (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won her Flight F consolation match against Samantha Galainena of Davidson, 6-2, 6-3.
In Flight B doubles, Sara Abutovic and Julia Breuss of Winthrop defeated Perrotta and Roth, 8-1, in the third place match. In Flight C seventh place match, sophomore Sarah Henderson (Bloomington, Ind.) and Prishlyak had to take a walkover loss to Lindsay Leblang and Casey Dashiell of UNC-Wilmington.
Nittany Lion sophomore Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) begins play at the prestigious ITA All-American Qualifiers Monday. The women's tennis team will look to build off today's strong finish at the ITA Regional in Norfolk, Va. on Oct. 21.
