Brown Named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior opposite Blair Brown (Purcellville, Va.) was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. It is Brown's first honor of the season and the second of her career. She shares this week's award with Minnesota's Lauren Gibbemeyer.

Brown led the team in kills in wins over Indiana and Purdue, including a career-high 23 Saturday night against the Boilermakers. The senior finished with 16 kills against Indiana before her career-night against Purdue, which also included 13 digs. Brown recorded 39 kills on the weekend and registered a .345 hitting percentage. She averaged 5.57 kills per set and 2.00 digs per set.

Other Big Ten honorees in addition to Brown include Illinois' Johannah Bangert as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Wisconsin's Julie Mikaelsen as Freshman of the Week.

Penn State (19-4, 9-3 Big Ten) is back in action Friday, Nov. 5 at Michigan at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast via tape-delay on ESPN2 on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. Penn State then travels to Michigan State on Saturday, Nov. 6 with action starting at 6:30 p.m.
