Lucas Earns Third-Straight Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

Dec. 6, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State Lady Lion guard Maggie Lucas (Narberth, Pa.) garnered her third consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week award after averaging 19.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Lady Lions. Her three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors are the third-most since the award's inception last season. Iowa's Jaime Printy and Illinois' Karisma Penn each claimed four awards last year.

In a tough overtime loss at Boston College in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Lucas had a career-high 28 points, including six three-pointers. She was 6-for-13 from long range in the game. Lucas also pulled in three rebounds and blocked her second career shot versus the Eagles. The native of Narberth, Pa., was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. In Sunday's wire-to-wire win over the Big 12's Texas Tech, Lucas was 4-for-8 from the field on the way to 10 points. She nailed two critical three-pointers to thwart Lady Raider runs in the second half.

The native of Narberth, Pa., is second on the team and eighth in the Big Ten in scoring at a 16.1 per game rate. Lucas is also 12th in three-point field goal percentage (.426) and first in in three-pointers made (3.2). Additionally, she is tied for second in the Big Ten in free throw percentage with a 94.7% (18-19) from the charity stripe.
