Marchinski Earns First Big Ten Weekly Honor

Jan. 4, 2011

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Penn State sophomore diver Alex Marchinski (Shillington, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week on Tuesday.

Marchinski had a career day on the 3-meter springboard this past Sunday, notching a score of 290.50 to earn third place in a diving dual meet with Wyoming in Indianapolis. The score was a 12.55-point improvement of his previous personal-best 277.95 achieved at the Georgia Invite on Dec. 4.

The sophomore honoree backed that performance up with a fourth-place showing in the 1-meter dive, scoring 262.95. Marchinski is the first Penn State diver to receive Big Ten weekly recognition since Mike Alderman captured his third diver of the week award on Jan. 23, 2007.

Penn State's diving team returns to action for a two-day meet at Maryland with Pittsburgh on Jan. 14-15.
