Feb. 2, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 2, 2011 -- The Nittany Lions are heading to Boston this weekend to partake in the Eric Solle Invitational, hosted by The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Along with the Nittany Lions the event will host NYU, U. Penn, Yeshiva, Duke and Hunter. Action will begin at 9a.m.

Last weekend, Jan 29, the men's and women's team struggled to finish strong at their last home dual of the season. While some individuals strived in their weapon the team as a whole failed to do so.

This weekend Penn State will face off against U. Penn and Duke, two teams they saw last weekend. Both the men's and women's teams defeated U. Penn, 16-11. The women beat the Blue Devils of Duke, 15-12 with the men falling to them 11-16.

Individually the Nittany Lions got a strong performance out of Nicole Glon who went 3-0 in the women's saber. Sophomore Vernon O'Garra defeated Johns Hopkins with a 3-0 victory in the men's epee.

This weekend both the men and women will look to refocus as the NCAA Championship Tournament nears. The final roster for this weekends competition will be determined later this week.

Next up for the Nittany Lions will be the Junior Olympics in Dallas Texas. The four-day event will begin Feb.18 at 8 a.m.
