The men's competition came to a close today at the NCAA Fencing Championships with Penn State remaining in second place. The Nittany Lions trail first place Notre Dame by 6 points.
Junior Miles Chamley-Watson took second in the men's foil after being defeated by Ariel DeSamet of Notre Dame. Chamley-Watson defeated Daniel Cohen, 15-5 to earn a spot in the finals. He had 21 victories with 111 touches scored. Teammate David Willette tied Daniel Cohen for third with 19 victories. Chamley-Watson and Willette both fenced their way to All-American honors.
Captain Aleksander Ochocki made it to the semi-finals in the men's saber where he was defeated by Avery Zuck. The junior tied for third with Evan Prochniak from the University of Pennsylvania. Ochocki had 19 victories with 107 scored. Adrian Bak finished the competition in seventh, with 14 victories and 99 touches scored. Both men walk away from the competition with All-American titles.
Freshman Anthony Green took fifteenth in the men's epee. Green had 11 victories and 93 touches scored.
Coach Emmanuil Kaidanov was happy with the teams performance overall and pleased that the "gap between them and Notre Dame was closing".
