CHICAGO, Ill. -
After finishing the second and third round of play today at the Big Ten Championships in Chicago, Ill., the Penn State women's golf team is currently in 10th place. The team finished the second round at the tournament, hosted by Northwestern, with a score of 314 after it was suspended yesterday following a thunderstorm.
Penn State was in 11th place after completing the second round, before posting its best round of the tournament with a 19-over-par 307 and jumping one spot to take over 10th place. The team is currently 78-over-par with a score of 942 (321-314-307) through the first three rounds.
Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) was a key to the team knocking seven strokes off of its second round score. She posted a 1-over-par 73 and is currently in a tie for 23rd place with a three-round score of 230 (+14). Ransone jumped 16 spots today after finishing the second round in a tie for 39th place. Freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) sits just one stroke behind Ransone heading into the final day with a score of 231 (79-76-76). She is tied for 26th place.
Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) jumped six spots in the third round to a tie for 52nd place as she also notched a third round score of 76. She has a total score of 240 (+24). Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) is one stroke off of Seo's pace with a score of 241 through three rounds. She is tied for 54th place. Seniors Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) round out the field for the Nittany Lions with scores of 260 and 263 through three rounds.
Michigan State leads all teams with a 27-over-par 891 through three rounds. The Spartans currently lead last year's Big Ten champion Purdue Boilermakers by two strokes. Purdue's Numa Gulyanamitta and Michigan State's Caroline Powers are tied for the individual lead, each with an even-par 216.
The fourth and final round of play will be tomorrow, April 24. Tee times will start at 8 a.m. CT.
