UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; May 9, 2011 - Penn State coach Ed DeChellis has received a National Letter of Intent from Sheridan College (Wy.) guard Matt Glover to join the Nittany Lion program for the 2011-12 season. The 6-4, 205-pound guard originally out of Orange, Calif. will be immediately eligible to play and brings three years of eligibility to Penn State after playing one season of junior college basketball in Wyoming.
"Matt is a big, strong perimeter player that can play a variety of positions for us and I think will be able to make an immediate contribution to our team," DeChellis said. "His body is Big Ten ready and I think he has a work-ethic and overall demeanor and competitiveness that will fit in nicely on our team."
The combo guard posted averages of 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game playing mostly at the two-guard in his freshman season at Sheridan. The Generals posted a 24-10 record in Region IX of the NJCAA. Glover made 70 percent of his free throws and 48 percent from the floor for a Sheridan team that posted 85 points per game.
"He is a big guard who is athletic, is a good shooter, has a good handle, can defend on the perimeter and rebounds well," said assistant coach Dan Earl who primarily recruited Glover. "He is really well-built and strong and is ready to play in the physical Big Ten."
Glover played point-guard in high school and averaged 18.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game as a senior at Tustin High School in Tustin, California. He lead his team to a 20-7 record in his senior season and was a first-team All-League selection as well as All-Orange County second team and All-CIF second team. He scored over 20 points in 14 games in his senior high school campaign, including a triple double performance vs. University High School where Glover scored 40 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out 11 assists.
Glover is the fifth junior college signee in DeChellis' eight seasons at the helm. Three of the previous four became two-year starters for the Nittany Lions, including honorable-mention All-Big Ten guard Stanley Pringle, forward Travis Parker and guard David "Mooch" Jackson.
Glover also had offers and interest from Nebraska, Iowa, Utah State, TCU, Rutgers and Idaho.
