Aug. 24, 2011

ERIN HILLS, Wis. - Junior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) has not made the top-64-competitor cut for the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur Championship after shooting an 11-over-par 83 in the second round of play at the Erin Hills course.

The long-stretching Erin Hills course presented a challenge for the Nittany Lion as he opened up on the front nine with a 4-over-par score on the first hole. He started a comeback as he hit even par and a single birdie on 7 of the remaining holes to wrap up the front nine with a 4-over-par score of 40. The back nine was the most difficult portion of the championship for Woodward as he shot over par on a total of five holes. His two-round total of 158 placed him tied for 296 at the conclusion of stroke play.
