Trio of Nittany Lions Named to Big Ten Women's Golfers to Watch List

Sept. 7, 2011

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three Nittany Lion golfers were named to the Big Ten's Women's Golfers to Watch list, the conference announced Wednesday. Freshman Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec), sophomore Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) were among the 36 Big Ten players named.

Archambault is one of just five freshmen in the conference to earn a spot on the list. She comes to Penn State from Canada as the No. 1 ranked golfer in Quebec last year. She brings a long list of junior accolades, winning the East Coast Junior Championship, the Provincial Junior Championship and the Provincial Match Play Championship.

Ceresko comes off of a stellar freshman season at Penn State. She finished her freshman campaign with a stroke average of 78.3, second best on the team of players who competed in more than 20 rounds. Ceresko recorded a fifth place finish at the Starmount Classic last season with a score of 147, tied for the 10th-best two-round score in school history. She was also named to the 2010-11 NGCA All-American Scholar Team.

Vosters joins Ceresko as a sophomore who brings plenty of experience after a freshman season that consisted of 21 rounds of play in which she averaged 78.9 strokes. At the Big Ten Championships last season, Vosters carded the top score on the team with a 305, which was good for the fourth-best four-round score in Penn State history. Vosters also earned 2010-11 NGCA All-American Scholar Team honors.

The Penn State women's golf team will open its season at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., from Sept. 11-13. Penn State will also host the 36th Nittany Lion Invitational from Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
