Januskova Advances in ITA All-American Prequalifier Tournament

Los Angeles, Calif. - Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) advanced to the round of 16 in the ITA All-American Prequalifier today. The junior won two matches today in the tournament's first day of competition.

In the opening round of prequalifying play, Januskova defeated Monica Gorny of Duke University, 6-1, 6-1. In the round of 32, the Nittany Lion faced Lynn Blau of Georgia Tech. After losing the first set, 1-6, Januskova bounced back by winning the next two, 6-4, 6-2. In the ITA Preseason poll Blau was ranked 124th.

Januskova returns to action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. PST, against Vanderbilt's Jackie Wu. Wu was ranked 100th in the ITA Preseason Poll.

In order for Januskova to advance to the qualifying round, she needs to win one more match in the prequalifier. The All-American Prequalifiers are hosted by UCLA and tomorrow will be the last day of prequalifying competition.
