The Penn State women's golf team jumped three spots in the final round of the Lady Northern Invitational to finish in a tie for eighth place with a 73-over-par 925. The Nittany Lions carded a 302 in the third round, which was tied for the third-best score of any team in the final round. The 302 was also Penn State's third-best round of the season. The 12-team tournament was hosted by Indiana at the par-71, 6,037-yard Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort.
Freshman Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) and sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) were each 3-over-par in the final round. They both jumped 12 spots on the final day to finish tied for 23rd place and each totaled a final score of a 16-over-par 229. Elliott's 74 in the third round matched a career-best.
Freshman Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) also jumped 12 spots in the third round, as she finished in a tie for 33rd place. She carded her best round of the tournament on the final day with a 75 and finished the tournament with a 232. Classmate Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) notched a 26-over-par 239 for a 50th place finish. Junior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) ended the tournament in 63rd place with a score of 245.
Penn State tied Wisconsin for eighth place and finished ahead of fellow Big Ten schools Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. Central Florida won the tournament with a 35-over-par 887 (308-290-289) through three rounds. Michigan's Meagan Bauer won the individual title with an even-par 213 (72-73-68).
The Nittany Lions will finish their fall schedule at the Hoosier Invitational, which begins on Monday (Oct. 17) and will run until Tuesday (Oct. 18). The tournament will be hosted by Indiana in Carmel, Ind.
