Nittany Lions Compete in Olympic Trials

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nine members of the Penn State men's and women's fencing teams traveled to Kansas City this past weekend to compete in the NAC Olympic Trials. The four-day event, which started Dec. 9, put the Nittany Lions against some of the country's top fencers.

Aleksander Ochocki found the most success with a sixth place finish in the men's saber. The senior captain is by far one of the strongest fencers for Penn State no stranger to Top Ten finishes. Teammate and fellow saber, Alex Schneller, in his first year of collegiate action with the Nittany Lions, took tenth. Adrian Bak and Sean Moran, also competing in the saber, took 16th and 31st, respectfully.

Freshman David Gomez-Tanamachi took a solid 15th place finish in the men's foil. Also competing in the foil was Jeremy Goldstein, who went on to place 41st. Freshman Jeffrey Miller, another fresh face for the Nittany Lions, walked away with 19th in the epee.

Nicole Glon and Alina Antokhina, members of the women's team, joined the men in Kansas City for the competition. Glon, in her second year with the Nittany Lions placed 26th in the saber while freshman Antokhina took 38th in the foil.

Next up, a select number of the Nittany Lions will travel to the NAC Div 1/ Junior Competition in Portland, Oregon, Jan. 7.
