U.S. Senior National Team Release | U.S. U-20 Team Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three Nittany Lion women's soccer student-athletes will be joining U.S. National Team camps this week. Midfielder Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) will be one of 29 players at the Senior National Team camp in Los Angeles, while Kori Chapic (Novelty, Ohio) and Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) will represent Penn State at a U-20 camp in San Diego.
Nairn, who just completed a recent trip to California for a December training session with the full team, will have the opportunity to make the U.S. squad for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The nine-day camp in Carson, Calif. will run from Jan. 7-15, after which the 20-player roster will be announced. The qualifying tournament is being held in Vancouver, Canada from Jan. 19-29. In the camp with Nairn is former Nittany Lion All-American and recent starting World Cup defender Ali Krieger. Nairn is one of just two players that has collegiate eligibility left (Kristen Mewis, BC).
Down the coast, Chapic and Hayes hit off 2012 in a 30-player camp that will run Jan. 5-19 in Chula Vista, Calif. at the Olympic Training Center. Chapic has recently earned a few callups to the U-20s, while Hayes has been a mainstay, featuring in the 2010 World Cup as a forward. The U.S. U-20 squad is slated to play a pair of scrimmages against Shanghai Women's F.C. during the two-week stint. The U-20s are in preparation for CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, which is set for Mar. 1-11 in Panama. The 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will run from Aug. 18-Sept. 9 in Japan, featuring 16 teams from six confederations.
