SALT LAKE CITY, Utah; - Members of the Penn State men's and women's fencing teams traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend, Feb. 17-20 to compete in the Junior Olympics. The event spanned four days and hosted thousands of the country's best fencers.
Sophomore Nicole Glon had a standout weekend placing second in the women's saber. Glon was up against 103 fencers and fell to Adrienne Jarocki of Sheridan Fencing Club. The top-three was rounded out by Alisha Gomez and Elizabeth Jug who tied for third. Freshman Oksana also found success coming in 16th in the women's epee. The men were represented by two freshmen, Alex Schneller and Jeffrey Miller. Schneller tied for 21st in the saber while Miller went on to take 41st in the epee.
Fellow Nittany Lions were also in Salt Lake City competing independently. Sophomores Benjamin Freiman and Mitchell Culler were competing in the men's epee taking 52nd and 62nd, respectively. Freshman Sean Moran was competing in the men's saber ending the weekend in 45th while sophomore Rylan Delap finished the weekend in 73rd in the men's foil.
Next up the Nittany Lions will compete against Duke, St. John's, Princeton and the UPenn, Feb. 25. The one-day event will take place in Philadelphia, Pa. Action will begin at 10 a.m.
