UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State freshman Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) has been selected as the ALC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. She received the conference honor for her standout play in the Nittany Lions' tough, last-minute 13-12 overtime loss to No. 17 Princeton on Saturday.
McCormick added another chapter to her brilliant freshman season versus the Tigers, headlining the Penn State offense with six points. She equaled her season high in goals, scoring four, and added two assists. Down 9-4 early in the second half, McCormick spearheaded a Nittany Lion rally, netting three goals, including a game-tying score in overtime, and tallying both assists down the stretch.
A starter of all 16 games this season, McCormick tops the Nittany Lions in assists with 26 and is tied for the team lead in points with 51.
McCormick was previously named ALC Rookie of the Week on March 5 and April 16. She has also earned both WomensLax.com and SynapseSports.com National Rookie of the Week honors on two occasions this season.
Penn State (11-5) will serve as the No. 3 seed for the ALC Championship, which is scheduled for May 3-5 in Gainesville, Fla. The Nittany Lions will play a first round game on Thursday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m. at host Florida's Dizney Stadium against sixth-seeded Johns Hopkins (8-8). Penn State is 5-0 all-time in opening round ALC Championship contests.
