Aug. 4, 2012

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Sixth Annual Penn State Football Letterman's Club golf outing on Saturday drew a record turnout as more than 150 former players and current coaches and staff enjoyed a great day at the Penn State Blue Course.

Players spanning more than 50 years of Nittany Lion Football returned to campus for golf, dinner and fellowship. Current Nittany Lion assistant coaches Charlie Fisher, Stan Hixon and Ron Vanderlinden also were among the participants.

Among the former players who returned Saturday were: Jeremy Boone, Chuck Burkhart, Gino Capone, Mike Cappelletti, Mike Cerimele, Tom Cherry, Tom Donchez, Gerald Filardi, Scott Fitzkee, Chris Ganter, Justin Kurpeikis, Rich Lucas, Shawn Mayer, Brian Monaghan, Greg Murphy, Stephen Pitts, Glenn Ressler, Mark Rubin, Tom Sherman, Justin Williams, Graham Zug and Charles Ruslavage, who was a letterman on the 1956-58 Nittany Lion teams.

"I love coming back; all of these guys are my brothers," said Justin Williams, a Nittany Lion wide receiver from 1992-95, who is a teacher and is working on his doctorate at Hofstra University. "This is the only fraternity I wanted to be in. (While at Penn State) We were groomed to understand that we were students first."

"Some of my best memories were playing in front of 110,000 fans, cheering for the punter," said Jeremy Boone, a two-time All-Big Ten punter from 2007-09. "I have no doubt that all the great Penn State fans will come out and support the team this year."

The winning team was comprised of Scott Fitzkee, Joe Lally, Mark Latsko and Doug Physher. The second place team was comprised of Frank Ahrenhold, Mike Orsini, Scott Skarzynski and Marshall Wagner and the third place team was made up of John Heinz, Gary Klossner, Bob Knechtel and Matt Stolberg.
