Nittany Lions in Major League Lacrosse Update

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's lacrosse has been well represented in Major League Lacrosse this season with three Nittany Lions plying their trade at the highest level of professional lacrosse. A 2012 graduate, Matthew Mackrides is playing for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, while recent U.S. Lacrosse call-ups Drew Adams and Greg Gurenlian are with the Long Island Lizards. All three former Nittany Lions played against each other this weekend as Chesapeake defeated Long Island, 13-6 on Saturday in Annapolis, Md.

Mackrides has played in nine games this season scoring five times and tallying one assist for the Bayhawks. Chespeake defeated Long Island 13-6 this weekend and is currently tied for first at 10-3 and looking to secure the top seed for the playoffs. Mackrides assisted on the final goal of the game, a two-pointer, to secure the victory. Chesapeake hosts fellow first-place squad Denver on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Adams has appeared in all 13 games this year, ranking second in minutes played (771:32), fourth in save percentage (.535) and fourth in goals against average (11.51). Adams has accumulated an 8-5 record for the third-place Lizards. Adams made 13 saves against the Bayhawks in the loss this weekend.

Gurenlian is the best face-off specialist in the MLL, 216 of 355 face-offs for a winning a league-best .606 percentage. Gurenlian has also pushed forward, scoring four goals and tallying three assists while picking up a league best 116 ground balls. Gurenlian won 8 of 20 face-offs this weekend.

Long Island plays at Hamilton on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with a victory sewing up a playoff spot. The winner of the semifinals set for August 25 will play for the Steinfeld Cup on August 26 at Harvard Stadium in Boston.
