All Sports Museum to Host Title IX Panel Discussion

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State All-Sports Museum will be hosting a panel discussion on the topic of Title IX on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Penn State All-Sports Museum. Martha Adams, former chair of the Penn State women's physical education committee, Sue Scheetz, former Penn State women's lacrosse coach and senior women's athletic director, and Coquese Washington, current head coach of the Penn State women's basketball team.

The three will discuss their earliest experiences with women in sport, and where we are today. Passed in 1972, Title IX revolutionized women's sports throughout the country. On the leading edge the gender equality issue, Penn State was fielding 11 women's teams before the law passed.

The laws 37 words revolutionized women's athletics throughout the country. 8 years before Title IX legislation, Penn State established 2 women's varsity sports teams. In years to follow, Penn State would add a total of 11 teams before Title IX legislation was ever passed. Today, Penn State has a total of 14 women's varsity teams.
