Penn State Wins Nittany Lion Invitational, Breaks Record

The Penn State women's golf team blew out the competition in the Nittany Lion Invitational, beating second place Harvard by 24 shots. Penn State had a record breaking weekend, shooting the lowest combined team score in school history. The Nittany Lions shot a total of 862, demolishing the old school record of 888. Penn State finished at two under par for the entire tournament and played extremely well.

Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) continued her consistent and dominating play, winning the individual portion of the Invitational. On the last day of the Nittany Lion Invitational, Ceresko shot 70, two under par-72, finishing the entire tournament at eight under par. She won by seven strokes over her teammate, junior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.), who finished in a tie for second place. Vosters finished the day with a 74, two shots over par and finished the weekend with a one under par total of 215. Sophomore Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas also performed extremely well, finishing in a tie for fourth place with a 217, one over par. Coach Denise St. Pierre was extremely proud and happy of the way her girls played this weekend, especially since their record breaking performance came at their home course. She said, "I am so proud of every one of them. For Ellen Ceresko to follow her first round with two more rounds under par is extraordinary."

The Nittany Lions are next in action at the Mercedes Benz Challenge, hosted by Tennessee. The three-day tournament begins on Oct. 12 and continues through Oct. 14.
