Women's Golf in 11th at Cougar Classic After Strong Round

CHARLESTON, S.C. - At the end of the first day at the Cougar Classic, the Penn State Nittany Lion women's golf team is currently in 11th place out of 23 very competitive teams. The Nittany Lions overall shot a five-over 293.

The Nittany Lions were lead by juniors Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.), who both shot 1-under par score of 71. Ceresko and Vosters are tied for 13th place individually with their solid opening rounds and Elyse Archambault (St. Jean-Sur-Rich, Que.) also displayed a strong round of golf, carding a 3-over par score of 75, placing her tied for 60th place.

"The team feels great about their start today," Head coach Denise St. Pierre said. "It's great to have Ellen Ceresko back after being out last season due to an injury. But we need to take this one day at a time. It is important in this field to take care of each round because all teams are close from top to bottom."

Southern Cal leads the tournament, shooting 3-under par score of 285, just one stroke ahead of second place teams Duke, Virginia, and Florida.

Second round play will continue on Monday, with Penn State teeing off at 7:50 a.m. The third and final round will commence on Tuesday.
