UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Thirteen members of the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team took park in the Floyd `Shorty' Hitchcock Memorial Tournament held at Millersville University. With five finalists, the Nittany Lions came home with four coming home champions.
Sophomore Andrew Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) went 4-0 at 149 to win the title. He had an additional win over a non-collegiate wrestler and had a major, a tech fall and a pin. Sophomore Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) went 4-0 at 157 with three pins to win the crown at 157. Senior Nick Fischer (Unionville, Pa.) went 4-0 at 165 to win the title with three pins. Sophomore Jimmy Lawson (Tom's River, N.J.) was 5-0 at 285 with a pin, beating teammate Nick Ruggear (Oxford, Pa.) by injury default in the finals. Ruggear went 4-1 with a pin.
Cam Kelly (Pittsford, N.Y.) went 2-2 at 133, Derek Reber (Lewisburg, Pa.) went 2-2 at 141, Kyle Moran (Oxford, Pa.) went 1-2 at 149, Rex Lutz (Easton, Pa.) went 1-2 at 165, Wes Phipps (Grove City, Pa.) was 2-2 at 184, Scott Syrek (Chester Springs, Pa.) went 1-2 at 197, David Owens (Derry, N.H.) competed at 149 and Caleb Livingston (Drexel Hill, Pa.) wrestled at 165.
Penn State's next action will be on Sunday, Jan. 27, when No. 13 Nebraska invades Rec Hall for a 2 p.m. dual. Penn State's full season of home duals is sold out but limited Standing Room Only tickets are available for select dual meets.
